National Monitoring
Committee for Minorities Education (NMCME)
The NMCME which was first
constituted on the 7th August, 2004 has been reconstituted again
on expiry of its term w.e.f. 23rd Aguust, 2007. The committee is
Chaired by the Minister of Human Resource Development and has
representations from eminent educationists, scholars from the
minority communities and other representatives of minority
community, Members of Parliament and representatives of State
Governments. The reconstituted Committee has met on the 16th
January, 2008. A Standing Committee of the NMCME has also been
constituted to attend to issues relating to the education of
minorities on an ongoing basis. The Standing Committee has
visited as many as sixteen States to interact with the minority
communities, managements of educational institutions and other
stakeholders. A Groups of Experts was also constituted by the
NMCME to make recommendations on revising the Scheme of
Introduction of Modern Subjects in Madarsas for increasing its
reach. Recommendations made by the said Group of Experts have
been endorsed by the NMCME and have formed valuable inputs into
the redesigning of the existing scheme of madarsa modernization,
which is being finalized in consultation with the Planning
Commission for the 11th Plan.
