ORDER

 

The Government of India had re-constituted the Central Advisory Board of Education (CABE) vide Resolution dated 6.7.2004. The first meeting of the re-constituted Central Advisory Board of Education was held on 10 & 11 August, 2004 during which some critical issues had emerged needing detailed deliberation.  It was decided to set up Committees of CABE to examine in detail these critical issues. Accordingly it has been decided, with the approval of the Minister of Human Resource Development, to set up a Committee of CABE on the subject of “Regulatory Mechanism for the Text books and parallel text books taught in schools out side the Government system” under the Chairmanship of Prof. Zoya Hassan and Prof. Gopal Guru with the following composition:

The terms of reference of the Committee are:-

 

a)      To study and report on text books in govt. schools not using the CBSE syllabus;

b)      To study the text books and curriculum of schools outside the Government system, including those run by the religious and social organizations;

c)      To suggest an appropriate regulatory mechanism for institutionalizing the issue of preparation of text books and curricular material.

 

The Committee shall be provided secretarial assistance by NCERT.  The Member of the Committee shall be paid TA/DA at the rates that are payable to the Members of the High Powered Committees.

 

While reviewing the textbooks, the Chairpersons of the Committee may co-opt subject matter/language specialists.

 

The Committee shall give its recommendations within six months from the date of its constitution.
