5.38. During 1967-68, an electronic control unit incorporat- ing the point on-wave selector for conducting duty test, in con- junction with the available high-current generator and the special power-frequency transformer, was developed. Steps are in hand for developing the magnetic blow-out device and this will form the mainline of investigations during 1968-69.

5.39. The processes that have gone into production during the period between 1st April and 31st December, 1968 are given below:

5.40. Scientific Delegations :

(i) The third General Assembly of International Biological Programme was held at Barne, (Bulgaria) from, 4th to 10th April, 1968. Prof. B. R. Seshachar, Head of the Department of Zoology, University of Delhi, attended the Assembly.

(ii) The eighth International Congress of Anthropological and Enthonological Sciences was held at Tokyo and Kyoto from

2nd to 10th September, 1968. Dr. D. K. Sen, Director, Anthropological Survey of India, Calcutta and Dr. (Mrs) Irawati Karve, Professor & Head of the Department or Anthropology, Deccan College, Postgraduate and Research Institute, Poona, attended the Congress in their individual capacities, and the Government of India met their expenses.

(iii) The 30th Annual Meeting of the British Association for the Advancement of Science was held at Dundee (UK) from 21st to 28th August, 1968. Professor A. K. Saba, General Secretary, Indian Science Congress Association, and Professor R. S. Mishra, Professor & Head of the Department of Mathematics, University of Allahabad, attended the meeting on behalf of the Indian Science Congress Association, Calcutta.

(iv) As a collaborative programme in science between India and USSR, a joint Indo-Soviet Symposium on the Chemistry of Natural Projects was held at Tashkent from 17th to 20th September, 1968. The symposium was attended by 15 Indian and 210 Russian scientists. The Indian delegation was sponsored by the National Institute of Sciences of India and was led by Professor T. R. Seshadri, F.R.S.

(v) The 24th Annual Session of the Ceylon Association for the, Advancement of Science was held at Colombo from 14th to 17th December, 1968. Professor R. S. Mishra, Professor & Head of the Department of Mathematics, Banaras Hindu University, attended the meeting on behalf of Indian Science Congress Association, Calcutta.

5.41. Institute of Research in Himalayan Geology:

An Ins- titute of Research in Himalayan Geology has been set up, with its temporary headquarters at the University of Delhi. The main object of the Institute is to promote studies on the geology of the Himalayas, their mineral and metal resources, river systems, glaciers, etc. in co-operation with Indian universities interested in this field.

5.42. Indian Science Congress:

The 56th Session of the Indian Science Congress was held at the Indian Institute of

Technology, Powai, Bombay from 3rd to 9th January, 1969 under the presidentship of Dr. A. C. Joshi, Vice-Chancellor, Banaras Hindu University. The Session was inaugurated by the, Prime Minister and attended by eminent scientists from about 13 foreign countries, besides a large number of Indian scientists and such other foreign scientists who happened to be in India during that time.
