18. The Indian Council for Cultural Relations, New Delhi is an autonomous Organisation working for establishing, reviving and strengthening of cultural relations between India and other countries. A budget provision of Rs. 11 lakh for its general activities, was made during the current financial year and a similar amount is likely to be given to the Council for its activities during 1967-68.

(i) A delegation of the Pracyavani Dramatic Group of Calcutta, visited Nepal in May, 1966 and staged Sanskrit plays there.
(ii) The Natya Ballet Centre Dance troupe visited Nepal for participation in the Independence Day celebrations at Kathmandu in August 1966.
(iii) An Indian contingent consisting of 35 members led by Dr. P.N. Sapru, M.P., visited Afghanistan for participation in the Afghan Jashan celebrations in August, 1966.
(iv) Dr. P.N. Dhar, Director, Institute of Economic Growth, visited the United Kingdom in May, 1966.
(v) Prof. K.S. Murthy, Head of the Department of Philosophy, University of Waltair, visited South East Asian countries in May, 1966.
(vi) Shri Jagannath Azad, Urdu Poet, visited Nepal in June, 1966.
(vii) Shri Suresh Chandra Jana of West Bengal went to Ceylon in July, 1966, for one year to teach Esraj and Tagore songs.
(viii) Maulana Imtiaz Ali Arshi, Librarian, Raza Library, Rampur, participated in the anniversary celebrations of the poet, Khushal Khan Khattark in Kabul in August, 1966.
(ix) Shri S.C. Ray, Teacher, Doon School, Dehra Dun visited the USSR in September, 1966.
(x) Shri Yogi Raj and Shri Hari Shankar Adesh were sent to Trinidad as Cultural Lecturers in September, 1966 and November, 1966 respectively.
(xi) Quari Farid Ahmed of Delhi participated in the International Quran Reading Competition in Kuala Lumpur in December, 1966.

la Bruchollere was arranged by the Council in October, 1966. A dance programme by the Japanese dancers was organised by the Council in New Delhi.
(i) The Council sent 2 silver trophies to the High Commission of India, Trinidad, for presentation to the All- Trinidad Council of Indian Music and Drama.
(ii) Books were sent to South Korea, Cuba, Ireland, Uganda for presentation.
(iii) Under the scheme of Essay Competition, the Council made a gift of books and handicrafts to the winner of Jawaharlal Nehru Elocution Contest sponsored by the Indian Embassy in Moscow.
(iv) English and Arabic books were made available by the Vice-President of India during his visit to Malaysia.
(v) One hundred and forty-five copies of Tarjumanul-Quran were sent to the Ministry of External Affairs for presentation abroad through the Indian Missions.
(vi) Five hundred copies of the Children's History of India were sent to the Ministry of External Affairs for presentation through the Indian Missions abroad. Copies were also presented to the Kerman Union High School, California, USA.
(vii) The Council sent a sari, a few scarves and raw-silk neckties to the Indian Embassy in the USA for presentation.
(viii) "International Studies", a journal, was subscribed for presentation to Singapore.
(ix) The Council sent musical instruments to the Deutsches Museum at Munich.
(x) The Indian Ambassador at Bangkok presented saplings of the Maha Bodhi Tree to the Deputy Governor at Pattani Province, Thailand.

(i) Orientation courses were organised in June, 1966, in collaboration with USAID for the benefit of Indians going to the USA for further studies.
(ii) Three orientation courses were organised during July- September, 1966 in collaboration with different organisations for outgoing Indian officers and for incoming, foreign trainees.
(iii) An orientation course was organised in August, 1966, in Calcutta for incoming foreign students and outgoing Indian students.
(iv) An orientation course was organised in September, 1966, in New Delhi for Indian students going to Russia, etc., for further studies.
(v) Two Introduction Courses for incoming foreign students were organised-(i) in September, 1966, in Madras and (ii) in Bombay in October, 1966.

29. Other Activities
(i) A number of foreign students were received by the Council on their arrival in India and facilities were extended to them in connection with their stay or onward travel.
(ii) Shri Madanjeet Singh gave an illustrated talk on 'Art of the Himalayas' under the auspices of the Council in New Delhi in October, 1966.

(iii) The Council arranged a Study Tour for foreign students from October 7-14, 1966. They visited Bhakra Nangal, Chandigarh and Simla.
(iv) The Council organised a one-day Seminar on 'Intellectual Values in Modern India' in New Delhi on the 20th November, 1966.
(v) A programme of Czechoslovak Films was organised by the Council at Azad Bhavan on December 13, 14 and 15, 1966.
