The Experts Committees appointed by. the Archaeo- logical Survey at various places, the Director-General and other officers of the Survey examined numerous objects, including gems and jewellery, weapons, paint- ings, sculptures and other items suspected to be antiq- uities. Out of such items only non-antiquities were permitted to be exported.

Antiquities, including,an excellent bronze figure of Nataraja and a fine Ardhanari-Vishnu image, portraits and paintings, coins and old swords, which were confiscated by-Customs for illegal attempt to export, were distributed to different museums and, institutions.

Temporary export permits were issued in respect of antiquities and art treasures sent abroad for exhibi- tions.
