APPENDIX F : MEMORANDUM ON ITEM 8 : TO CONSIDER STEADY DECLINE IN THE NUMBER OF STUDENTS JOINING COURSES IN INDIAN LANGUAGES AND ARTS SUBJECTS IN COLLEGE CLASSES.

(Government of Kerala)

It is found that the number of students who come forward, to join courses in Indian languages and Arts subjects-history, politics philosophy and economics-in the colleges in Kerala State is steadily declining . There are only two Or three students studying these subjects in most colleges, even though there is provision for admitting 40-60. This is a very alarming development, and unless it is hecked, it will have very serious repercussion on the cultural attainments of the coining generations. The unpopularity of Sanskrit and philosophy is the most distressing aspect of this development.
