B. Social Education

1. Scheme No. 1 (iii) Establishment of Five Model Community Centres in each of the selected area

2. Scheme No. 1 (iv)-An integrated library service in each of the selected areas.

3. Scheme No. 1 (v)-Establishment of Janta Colleges-one in each of the selected areas.

4. Scheme No. 4 (a)-Development of Primary schools into school cum-community centres.

5. Scheme No. 4 (c)-Improvement of Library service- establishement or development of District libraries-one in each District with Central State libraries at the apex in each state.

6. 4 (d)-Training of teachers and workers in the field of Social Education.

7. Scheme No. 6-Grants to voluntary educational organisations under the Five Year Plan Basic and Social Education.

8. Scheme regarding appointment of District Social Education Organisers.

These schemes were put into effect from the middle of 1952-53

A statement showing the amounts of grants sanctioned to the State Governments during 1955-56 and also during the Plan period under the above mentioned schemes, showing also the targets approved has been tabulated and are given hereafter.

The grants sanctioned to various States under schemes 1 & 4 of which the above sub-schemes form part and for the years 1952-53 to 1954-55 and the amounts utilised by them have already been furnished in the last year's report to the Board.

As soon as the First Five Year Plan was over, the State Governments were requested to send. progress for the schemes for which central assistance was sanctioned to them during different years and especially for 1955-56. But information has so far been received from only a few State Governments. The Grants utilised by these States during 1955-56 are given in the attached statement.

It is not possible to form a precise idea of the progress achieved under these schemes as many State Governments have yet to send their progress reports.
