APPENDIX H : DESIRABILITY OF PROVIDING RESIDENTIAL QUARTERS FOR WOMAN TEACHERS IN RURAL AREAS IN PRIMARY AND SECONDARY STAGES AND TO TREAT THE EXPENDITURE AS AN INTEGRAL PART OF THE SCHOOL CONSTRUCTION.
In view of the urge of women's education in rural areas, adequate steps have to be taken to provide the necessary facilities. It has been difficult for institutions to recruit women teachers in the districts where no accommodation is readily available for them and this has hampered Women's Education. Houses on rent are hardly available in the areas. Although men teachers can utilise whatever accommodation may be available, the women teachers require privacy and security. It is considered essential that for women teachers in rural areas suitable quarters should be provided so that two or three teachers, if necessary, may live together in one building. For this reason the State Government consider that Primary and Secondary Women teachers in rural areas should be provided with rent-free quarters. The expenditure on this account should be shared on 50 : 50 basis by the Centre and the State Government.
