APPENDIX C : CONSIDERATION OF SUITABLE METHODS OF TEACHING HINDI.

Now that the need for the teaching of Hindi as the official language of the country is becoming more and more urgent, all over the country, it is high time that a proper scientific investigation is carried out into the methods

of teaching Hindi. We should take an example in this from English, tic; teaching of which is a subject of constant research, investigation and experiment. The work of Prof. I. A. Richards of Harvard University in this field is the latest example of this. Unfortunately practically nothing has been done so far in carrying out similar researches in the most effective ways for the teaching of Hindi, which is at present being carried on in a most haphazard manner at the whim of individuals and the uncoordinated efforts of insti- tutions. It is, therefore, suggested that the Central Advisory Board of Education may consider this problem and recommend steps to be taken for putting the teaching of Hindi in the country on a scientific basis.
