APPENDIX H : REPORT OF THE CENTRAL CO-ORDINATION COMMITTEE IN CONNECTION WITH THE FINALISATION OF SYLLABUSES FOR VARIOUS COURSES TO BE INTRODUCED IN MULTIPURPOSE SCHOOLS.

As desired by the Central Advisory Board of Education at its second meeting held in January, 1955, the Government of India set up a, "Central Coordination Committee" in August 1955 to draw up an integrated syllabus for the school final examination to be taken at the end of the Secondary stage (14 to 17). The Committee with the assistance of a number of smaller sub-committees set up for different subjects or groups of subjects has prepared syllabi for a large number of subjects recommended by the' Secondary Education Commission for this stage. It is likely that the syllabi have overlooked some important point of view in this or' that subject or have not taken into account the special characteristics of all the regions equally Well. The best way to regard the syllabi therefore would be to to treat them as suggestive only. The authorities concerned will have to prepare their own syllabi in the light of the special needs and circumstances of their areas. It is hoped, however, that the present draft syllabi will provide a useful basis for the final syllabi. The standard aimed at in these syllabi is that of the present intermediate and it has been suggested to the authorities concerned that they will do well to bear that consideration in mind while preparing their own syllabi.
