1. A Conference of the Professors of English of the universities of India was held on the 23rd and 24th January 1953 to consider the future role and functions of English in the universities and Secondary schools with particular reference to the present transi- tional problems and the language policies of the Governments in India. The recommendations of the Conference, given in the enclosed proceedings are placed before the C.A.B.E. for consideration and advice.
