APPENDIX B(b)- REPORT ON THE ACTION TAKEN ON THE RECOMMENDATIONS OF CENTRAL ADVISORY BOARD OF EDUCATION MADE AT THEIR 13TH MEETING HELD AT BOMBAY IN JANUARY, 1947, REGARDING AIR EDUCATION

Parsuant to the recommendations of the Central advisory Board of Education made at their 12th meeting at Mysore, January 1946, a Committee on Air Training in relation to the Educational System, consisting of two representatives each of the Civil Aviation Directorate, Ministry of Education and Air Headquarters, was

appointed to establish co-ordination between aviation education and the general educational system of the country.

The Committee met on the 25th November, 1946, and made certain recommendations which were endorsed by the Central Advisory Board at their 13th meeting held at Bombay in January, 1947.

The important recommendations of the Committee are as follows: -

1. Formation of a Standing Committee on the Educational Side of Civil Aviation.

2. Formation of Aeronautical Societies and Gliding Clubs in Colleges and Universities.

3. (a) Selection of teachers from schools and colleges for short courses of instruction in Aeronautics.

(b) Introduction of Aeronautical Science as an optional subject in the Science and engineering courses in Universities.

The present position is as follows:-

Formation of a Standing Committee on the Educational Side of Civil Aviation.In view of the establishment of the National Cadet Corps and the extension of its activities to Air Training and the setting up of the Aeronautical Society of India which is also concerned with educational aspects connected with the promotion of Air mindedness in educational institutions, it has boon decided not to set up the proposed Committee.

Formation of Aeronautical Societies and gliding clubs in Colleges and Universities.The Aeronautical Society of India has boon established and the Society is doing useful work for the advancement of knowledge of aeronautical sciences. As regards gliding clubs, steps have already been taken to foster the growth of gliding clubs by giving grants to the Indian Gliding Association which has made good progress and it is also proposed to develop the manufcture of gliders in the Flying Club at Allahabad.

(a) Selection of Teachers from Schools and Colleges for short courses of instructions in Aeronautics

(b) Introduction of aeronautical science as an optional subject in the, Science and Engineering Courses in Universities.-The question of selection of teachers from schools and colleges for short courses of instruction in Aeronautics, the suggestions will be considered after aeronautics has boon included in University and school curricula. The Indian Aeronautical Society proposes to take up with the Universities and States the question of introduction of Air Education in Schools and Colleges. The Society also proposes to conduct examinations for All India Certificates in Aeronautics.

The matter is placed before the Central Advisory Board of Education for information.
