The problem of improving educational statistics, so as to make them both more reliable and better in quality, is being considered and for this purpose the old form of General Educational Tables has been considerably revised. In the interest of uniformity the `B' States are being approached for furnishing the same. Government of India also organize short term courses in Educational Statistics for training of the staff of various States. It was agreed last year at a meeting of the D. P. Is. that last date for submitting the returns of General Educational Tables should be the 31st of October. The following table gives fin up-to-date account with regard to the date of receipt of complete set of General Educational Tables from different States for the two consecutive years 1948-49 and 1949-50 the last date for which was agreed to be 31st of October :-

The Central Secretariat Library has got a collection of books on all subjects except Education, as the latter is serviced by the Central Educational Library. It caters to the normal requirements of all Ministries of the Government of India and also of the Ministry of Education in relation to cultural, Sociological and other topics. All subjects indirectly related to Education come under the purview of this Library. The work done in the Central Secretariat Library is as follows :--
(a) loan and reference service to the staff of the Government of India, Members of Parliaments, Embassies in Delhi and others approved by the Educational Adviser to the Government of India;
(b) issue of classified catalogues in Sections and monthly lists of additions;
(c) information service about publication of books generally;
(d) preparation of selected bibliographies,
(e) working as an exchange library between the U.S.A. and India for official publications in accordance with the agreement between the two countries.
An Advisory Committee on the Central Secretariat Library, consisting of the Educational Adviser as Chairman and 8 other members who represent various Ministries of the Government of India, meets at least once a year and advises on the subject of Accommodation, Book Selection and other problems of the Library.
