"I have to thank you for your letter of March 12th 1942, and for the copy you sent of the report of the Uniform Braille Code Committee of the Central Advisory Board of Education.
"The India Sub-Committee of the National Institute for the Blind desires me to express its congratulations on the setting up of the Committee to consider the important question of Uniform Braille, and to express the hope that it may be possible for this Committee to reach a satisfactory solution of the problem in the near future.
"An the Educational Commissioner with the Government of India made clear in opening the proceedings of your Committee, and an our experience in this country abundantly confirms the education of the blind can make no satisfactory progress until there is uniformity in Braille, nor can the printing of embossed books be undertaken in any scale commensurate with the need.
"We hope that your Committee will keep as in reach with the progress made and if it is thought that we might be able to help you in any way at a later stage, when a Code has been agreed, and the establishment of a Printing Press and Central Library are considered, We67
trust that you will let us know. Any application will certainly receive most careful and sympathetic consideration."
