GOALS OF EDUCATION
Goals identified cover a wide spectrum of social national and individual's total development. What is stressed more, is the general need for gearing education for national unity, national integration, character building, imbibing Democratic values, dignity of labour, scientific temper and all round advancement.
A leading religious forum suggests : "The education should foster harmony between science and religion so that one can be scientific without being materialistic and be religious without being

superstitious. It should eradicate prejudice, be they intellectual, social or religious". It goes on to add the education while drawing out the best in human beings, should address to the fuller development of their spiritual, mental and physical faculties in a holistic manner.
Some voluntary associations have viewed promotion of Indian culture, ideals and spiritual values as the prime concern of education. The All India voters association conceived goals of education as development of moral values, attainment of self- sufficiency in all sectors of activities and establishment of socialistic pattern of society.
At school level, the goals commonly visualised include :
- Development of the spirit of national unity, national integration and religious harmony, building up national and moral character; fostering self discipline and faith on democratic values.
- Acquainting with physical, cultural, and social environment, promoting thinking, analysing and understanding faculties.
- Removing superstitions, inhibitions and development of scientific outlook.
- Development of socially productive vocational skills, respect for the dignity of labour.
The goals for higher education, include the quest for excellence, developing original and creative thinking, leadership qualities among students for the betterment of self and the society.
