Instructions for filling the form

1. An educational survey is being conducted to collect data regarding the habitations-their size and distribution, the schooling facilities available and the areas without schooling facilities. Your cooperation is requested for giving infor- mation in respect of your village, the schools in your village and something about other villages as required in the form. Please fill in the form for your village according to the instructions given below.

2. In case of a village with a school this form is to be filled in by the headmaster of the school in consultation with the village officer. The form has to be signed by the village school headmaster. In case of a village without a school the head-master of the nearest school will fill this form with the help of the patwari.

3. All information is to be given as on 30-9-1978.

4. Items 1 to 6 have been filled in by office.

5. In item 7 estimated population of the village is to be given. If the present actual figures are available from the data recently collected/birth registers available with the village officer/patwari/any other competent authority, these should be given in place of estimates.

6. Regarding item 8, it should be checked whether the esti- mated population of the village differs widely from the expected normal increase or decrease in the population as given in 1971 Census. If it does, give reasons for the same.

7. In item 9, estimated child population in the village in different age-groups is to be given. If the present actual figures are available, these should be given in place of estimates.

8. (i) In item 10, information has to be provided in respect of habitations of your village. A habitation is a distinct cluster of continuous houses with a local name. A village may comprise one or more habitations, one of which may have its name as the name of the village itself.

(ii) Habitations with population less than 25 in thickly populated areas and less than 10 in sparsely (hilly and desert) populated areas are not to be identified sepa- rately. These habitations should be treated as parts of the nearest habitation and their population be included in that of the latter.

(iii) In case a habitation has one or more than one school. all these schools will be entered in cols. 4, 5 and 6, but categorywise according to classes taught. If there are three schools in a habitation one with classes I to X and the other two with classes I to V, these will be entered as

(iv) In respect of columns 7 to 14, only recognised schools are to be taken into account. Recognised schools include government schools, municipal schools, pan- chayat samiti schools and private schools that have been recognised by competent authority.

(v) In columns 15 and 16, put a tick mark ( ) against habitations which are populated predominantly by Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes respectively. In the case of remaining habitations, a cross (x) mark may be put in that column.

9. In item 12, information about the villages on the boundaries of your village has been given. The habitations of your village are not to be included.

10. In the map in item 13, show all habitations of your village mentioned in item 10 besides the villages on the boundaries mentioned in item 12.
