2. SCHOOL INFORMATION FORM

Instructions for Headmasters of recognised schools for filling the form

1. An Educational Survey is being conducted to collect data regarding the habitations-their size, population and distribution, the schooling facilities. Your cooperation is required for giving information in respect of your school. Please read the following instructions carefully before filling the, form.

2. This form is to be filled in by the headmasters of recog- nised schools. The schools which are recognised for one/ two stages of education and are un-recognised for certain classes, are also to fill in the form. Such institutions will give information in respect of the recognised part of the school.

3. The date of reference is 30-9-1978. All information is to be given as on 30-9-1978.

4. In some items, the possible answer choices are written against the item, you are to choose the correct answer choice applicable to your school and put a tick mark in the bracket against your answer choice.

5. Item 8 : All schools run by the State or Central Govern- ment, Public Undertakings, and Autonomous Organisa- tions completely financed by the Government will be treated as government schools. All schools run by munici- pal corporations, municipal committees, notified area committees, zilla parishads, panchayat samities, etc. will be treated as local body schools.

6. Item 10 : A school is `school for boys' if boys are admitted to all classes and admission of girls is restricted to some specific classes only. Similarly, a school is `school for girls' if girls are admitted to all classes but admission of boys is restricted to some specific classes only. A school is coeducational, if both boys and girls are admitted to all the classes in the school.

7. (i) Item 14(a) : Put a tick for the answer choice which is applicable to majority of the classes (including sections) of the school.

(ii) Item 14 (b) : The construction may be considered `pucca' if bricks, cement, mortar or stones have been used in the walls.

(iii) Item 14 (b): Tick the answer choice applicable to majo- rity of the classes (including sections) of the school i.e., if majority of the classes sit in the owned portion of the building, tick `owned' ( ).

8. (i) Item 17 (a) : For this purpose additional rooms required shall be of the type already existing. In case of schools running in open space or tents, total num- ber of rooms required may be given.

(ii) Item 17 (b) : The response to the item is `yes' if the school has some land to construct some additional rooms or if the school building is pucca and more storeys can be added to the building.

9. Item (a) : A school is supposed to be running in shifts if either some classes are working in the morning and other classes are working in the evening or when there are two parallel sets of classes working in two shifts. In case two schools with different names are using the same premises at different times, the schools are not considered to be running in shifts.

10. Item 18 (b) : The school building can be used for more than one purpose. As such there could be more than one ticks for this item.

11. Item 20 : One class could have mote than one section. For this item, the sections are to be totalled to give response to this item.

12. Item 21 : By `textbook bank' is meant sets of textbooks possessed by the school for the purpose of being lent to the needy students for the academic year.

13. item 31 (b) : Give the number of teachers working in the school as on 30-9-1978. This should include all the teachers actually working and also those who are on short leave.

14. Item 32 : (i) A trained teacher is a teacher who has succ- essfully undergone a course of teacher training.

(ii) A school may be imparting education for more than one stage of education and there might be teachers teaching classes belonging to two or more stages of education. Such teachers should be considered as belonging to the school stage where they are having more than 50% of their teaching load. Suppose, in a PM (Primary-Middle) school, a teacher is teaching both primary and middle classes. He

will be considered to be teaching at the primary stage if more than 50% of his teaching load is in primary classes. Otherwise, he will be considered to be belonging to the middle stage. In case a teacher is teaching more than two stages he will be allocated to the stage wherein he devotes the maximum time. In case a teacher is devoting equal time-for various stages available in the school, he may be included at the highest stage.

Item 33 (a) : In this item, age-wise distribution of all students (belonging to all communities including S.C. and S.T.) in each class is to be given. Suppose, the enrolment in class V is 50 : 27 boys and 23 girls. On collecting the age of 27 boys. the number of boys belonging to the various age-groups are to be entered in the relevant columns against class V. Similarly, the number of girls is to be entered in the relevant columns.

Items 33 (b) In this item, age-wise enrolment of scheduled caste students is to be given. Suppose, out of 27 boys in class V, 6 belong to Scheduled Castes ; the age distribution of 6 boys will be entered in the table against relevant columns, Similarly, for girls, age distribution is to be given.

Item 33 (c) : In this item, age distribution of students belonging to Scheduled Tribes in each class, for boys and girls separately, is to be entered in the table.

16. Items 34 (a) and 34 (b) are to be filled in by schools in the rural areas, Moreover, information in primary classes is to be given in 34(a) and information in respect of middle classes in 34 (b). Habitation is a distinct cluster of houses in the village and a village may have more than one habitations. In a school in a rural area, students may be coming from the neighbouring villages. Number of students coming from these villages, habitation-wise, is to be given.
