PREFACE
 

This is the third issue of the publication "A Hand Book of Educational and Allied Statistics, the first one was brought by the Ministry of Human Resource Development in 1980. The main objective of bringing out this publication is to make available the latest data on Education and related sectors like Population, Labour and Employment, Literacy, National -Income etc. for the benefit of various users of educational data viz. Planners, Administrators and Re.- search workers.

The publication provides time series data on Education for All India covering the period 1950-51 to 1981-82 and State-wise data for the years 1970-71 and 1980-81.

The Ministry of Human Resource Development, Department of Education thanks the Registrar General of India, Directorate General Employment and Training and Central. Statistical Organisation for making available to this Mini- stry the data in their respective fields. The Ministry also expresses its thanks to all the Ministries and other organisations from whose publication Secondary data have been reported in the publication.

I am grateful to Shri S.C. Seddey, Deputy Director Statistics in this Ministry for his dedicated efforts in overall super. vision of the data collection, its compilation and for editing the final manuscript, I also share my gratitude to the other staff of the Statistical Unit of the Ministry for their sincere efforts in bringing out this publication.

Based on the suggestions made by some of the User Organisations, we have slightly - revised the third issue so as to make it more useful to all the users of this publication. However, further suggestions to improve the publication are most welcome and may be sent to the Joint Secretary (Planning), Ministry of Human Resource Development, Department of Education, New Delhi.
