PART 1- GENERAL SURVEY

This publication Education in India-Vol. III consists of two parts, viz. Part-I and Part-II. Part-I gives sex-wise examination results of various courses at national level while Part-II gives state-wise detailed statistics of number appeared, number passed and pass percentage.

The Table-wise analysis reveals that the maximum pass percentage (93.3) is shown in engineering research courses and the lowest (23.8) in other research courses as per examination results shown under table 1.1.

Tabel 1.2 gives the examination results of post graduate and equivalent courses. The ups and downs in pass percentages varied in between the lowest (32.5) in L.L.M. (Law) and the highest (91.4) in M.E./M.Tech./M.Arch. courses. In the race of percentage the girls lead in all subjects except in M.A. (Humanities, Arts and Languages) and M.E./M.Tech./M.Arch. courses.

Table 1.3 gives the examination results leading to first degree and equivalent standard courses. This table shows the highest pass percentage (89.7) in B.Sc. (Agriculture) and the lowest (50.2) in L.L.B. (Law). The sex-wise analysis brings out the facts that the girls performance was comparatively better to that of boys. The highest pass percentage of girls was (100.0) in Business Administration and the lowest (44.7) was in Oriental Studies. In the case of boys, the variation of pass percentage narrowed down to the highest (89.6) in B.Sc. Agriculture and the lowest (49.6) in L.L.B.

Table 1.4 depicts the examination results of post graduate diploma/Certificate Courses. The highest pass percentage is in Agriculture (98.4) where only boys are reported to have appeared at the examination followed by 84.3 %in other diplomas and 82.7 % in Arts. Pass percentage of girls varied in between 50.8 in Commerce to 88.0 in other courses. Pass percentage of boys ranged in between 98.4 in Agriculture to 45.1 in LAw. In all, girls performance was better than that of boys.

Table 1.5 depicts the examination results of post matric diploma/Certificate (not leading to degree) courses. The highest pass percentage (95.8 %) is in Arts, followed by (90.1) in Science and (82.8 %) in Education courses. The lowest pass percentage is in Commerce and Business Management, i.e. (48.9). Girls recorded comparatively better performance in most of the subjects/courses.

Table 1.6 gives examination results of Intermediate/Pre- degree/Pre-University/10+2 and matriculation courses. The pass percentage is the highest (82.8) in Engg./Tech./Arch. and the lowest (33.6) in Music and fine arts courses. Boys, performance was comparatively rated low in all subjects/courses as compared to that of girls.
