ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS
In the preparation of this report the Committee drew upon the resources of many institutions. The contribution made by a number of experts has been significant. Without the support of these institutions and individuals, accomplishment of the tasks assigned to the Committee would have been impossible. While some names have been mentioned in the report, it would be difficult to identify all the institutions and individuals whose guidance and support was available to the Committee. The Committee would, however, be failing in its duty if it did not specially express its gratitude to:
- Prof. G. Ram Reddy, Chairman, Prof. S.K. Khanna, Former Vice-Chairman and Shri Y.N. Chaturvedi, Secretary of the UGC for constituting the Committee on an area of vital significance for enhancing the relevance of university education, for providing to the Committee the perspective in which university reform had to be considered and carried out and for extending their unqualified support.
- Experts whose expertise became available for identification of courses, drawing up of syllabi in the proposed vocational subjects and for identifying infrastructural requirements and the strategies needed for effective implementation of the programmes.
- Representatives of employers who looked at the syllabi critically and suggested changes with a view to relating them more specifically to the knowledge and skill requirements of the employment market and generally to enhance the feasibility of implementing the programme.
- Institutions which hosted the workshops that the Committee organized in different parts of the country and spared the services of their personnel for a diversity of tasks.
- Educational Consultants India Ltd., particularly its officers Dr. M.S. Sukija (Project Director) and Sarvashri J.J.Nandi, B.S. Madhukar and S.K. Sharma for logistical support that it provided without which the Committee would have found the task difficult to accomplish.
- Sarvashri K.L. Gupta, C.K. Kapahi, O.P. Sharma, S.K. Goel, A K Sinha, Shyam Singh, Jagdish Kumar & Prem Singh of the University Grants Commission and Ravi Kant Patial and B.K. Srivastava of the Ed.CIL who provided able secretarial support often at considerable personal discomfort.
- Last but not the least Dr. M.D. Tiwari, Joint Director, University Grants Commission for the significant contribution that he made to the deliberations of the Committee and preparation of the report.
To all these persons and institutions, the members of the Committee are indebted beyond measure.
