VALEDICTION

The Valedictory function started at 12.15 p.m. Dr. R. Kishore. Treasurer, APSC and Principal, St. John's Senior Secondary School extended the warm welcome to all. He thanked the Chairman, CBSE and other officials for the exclusive and excellent opportunities given to the principals during the previous 2 days for academic interactions.

Dr. J.D. Johnson, General Secretary, APSC and Principal SBOA Sr. Secondary School presented the recommendations of the conference. The recommendations were approved by the conference unanimously.

Mr. K.N. Pillai, Principal, Indian Embassy School, Dubai, Ms. M. Sandhu, Principal, Spring Dales School, Jullundur and Ms. Meena Viswanathan, Principal, Bhartiya Vidya Bhavan Senior Secondary School, Elamakkara expressed their views about the conference.

Prof. B.P. Khandelwal, Chairman, CBSE giving a valedictory address placed on record the team work of the officials of APSC for the excellent Organisation of the conference. Dr. Khandelwal called for the concerted efforts from academicians stating that consequent upon the universalisation of the primary education, the thrust will be slowly shifted to the secondary education sector.

The Secondary Education sector should prepare itself to address to the problems of quantity and quality. But with the changing scenario of the social edifice, he said it was necessary for the educationists to plan not only for the current year but also for the next decade. The emphasis of education should shift from knowledge to application and human resource development. Stressing on the need for competency based curriculum, he said it was vital to strengthen the nonscholastic areas and to adopt appropriate evaluation model which would give a total interpretation of the personality and the profile of the learner. The school sector, Prof. Khandelwal said should take note of global changes in economic development and open up flew areas of learning which will be relevant and meaningful to life. Vocationalisation of the education should become more broad based with the closer interaction between the industry and the schools. Stating that all these new dimensions call for updation of knowledge should work together in developing new programmes of training both for the principals and teachers. It will infuse in them, a sense of self confidence, leadership and dynamism. He said that the Board will take all possible steps to examine the recommendations of the conference and to transit into reality within the permissible parameter of its functioning.

The conference ended with the cheerful note. The Vote of thanks was proposed by Sh. G. Balasubramanian, joint Secretary, CBSE, Regional Office, Madras.
