The Board offers a number of Vocational Courses at the, Senior School Stage. List of such Vocational Course is given below.

Notes
1. The vocational courses in Life Insurance and General Insurance though job-oriented courses do not provide any job guarantee in the industry concerned unless the Selection Tests organized by the respective agencies and other pre-requisites laid down in the scheme are fulfilled. Railway Commercial Working is job linked and guarantees placement in the industry, subject to fulfilment of the rules/regulations and conditions laid down for the purpose by the Organisation. Only those schools which have been selected by CBSE in consultation with the agencies sponsoring the concerned courses viz. LIC, GIC, Railway etc. are allowed to offer these courses. These are to be offered strictly in accordance with the Board's Scheme of Studies and the Course Structure given in the syllabus of each course. Admission of candidates to these courses will be made in accordance with the procedures laid down by the sponsoring agencies.
2. From the academic session 1995-96 of class XI single subject vocational courses under Com- merce and Agriculture based Vocational Groups have been converted into self-contained package of three electives. All the courses have Groups of THREE Electives. It is obligatory to select and offer all the three electives as indicated in the Syllabus of the concerned Vocational Course.
3. Option of Vocational Commerce based subjects to be offered with Commerce discipline under the Academic Stream.
3.1 Bridges between Commerce-based vocational courses/packages and the subjects pertaining to commerce discipline under the Academic Stream have also been provided. Accordingly, Business Studies and Accountancy can be combined subject to meeting the Obliga- tions required under the prescribed scheme of studies, with the following areas from the Commerce based vocational courses
i. Typewriting (English or Hindi) (from the package of Stenography)
ii. Stenography (English or Hindi) and Typewriting (English or Hindi) from Stenography Group.
iii. Store-keeping and Store Accounting from Purchasing & Store Keeping Group.
iv. Consumer Behaviour and Protection (from the package of Marketing and Salesmanship)
3.2 The subject "Introduction to Computer Applications" (Code No. 711) from vocational stream can also be offered with Commerce based and other disciplines under the academic stream. This, however, cannot be combined with the `Computer Science' (Code No. 083).
4. Schools for Railway Commercial Working and Health & Para-Medical Courses are fixed in consultation with the agencies sponsoring the courses viz. Railways and Ministry of Health respectively. As such these courses cannot be started without obtaining prior approval of the Board.
The Vocational Courses are to be offered as per the list given above. However, before introducing a Vocational Course(s) the School must consult/refer to Rules/Regulation on

Eligibility Conditions, broad Scheme of Studies, Scheme of Examinations etc. as given in part-I as well as in the Courses of Studies of the relevant Vocational Course published separately.
The Learning areas under the vocational stream include:
I & II Two Languages Either at Core or Elective Level, as in case of the Academic Stream. However, a candidate of the vocational stream may replace one of the Languages by an Elective from the Academic stream or by a subject as is given in the syllabus of the Vocational Course concerned.
III General Foundation As given in the syllabus of the Vocational Course concerned. Course (GFC)
IV Physical and Health Education As per Academic Stream.
V to VII-Vocational Group (Equivalent to THREE Electives) as given in the Course Structure.
VIII Additional Subject, offered, if any.
Notes:
1. For syllabuses in Language(s), Physical and Health Education and subjects provided from Academic Stream please refer to courses under the Academic stream of the relevant year. For GFC and Vocational Group Electives see details in the Course Structure of the Syllabus of the Vocational Course concerned.
2. Out of the two languages, one shall be English or Hindi, but if English or Hindi has been specifically mentioned to be taken by a student in a particular Vocational Course(s) the same is to be offered. Fir this, please refer to the Syllabus of the Vocational Course concerned.
3. In lieu of language 11, an Elective can also be offered which will be in addition to the three Electives required to be compulsorily offered. The provision of opting an Elective by the vocational students in lieu of language-II and as an additional(option- al) subject has been made keeping in view the relevance of that subject to the vocational course and to facilitate upward mobility. Schools should keep this impor- tant aspect in view while selecting an elective in place of language or as an additional (optional) subject.
4. A candidate of the Vocational Stream, if he so desires, may also offer an Additional subject from the Academic Stream, or as per provision made in the Scheme or Course Structure of the-Vocational Course concerned..
5. General Foundation Course consists of two parts. viz. Part-I and part-II. Part-I is common for all Vocational Courses and it is to be taught by existing faculty of the school, preferably by a PGT of Commerce (Business Studies) or Economics. Part-II is relevant to the course and is to be taught by the vocational teachers of the relevant course.

6. The General Foundation Course (GFC) and Physical and Health Education(PHE) which are to be offered compulsorily under the Vocational Stream, are the subjects of INTERNAL ASSESSMENT In these areas the schools will provide Grades to the Board on a nine point scale at the end of Class XII before the commencement of Board's Examination. Language(s) and Electives are the subjects of external examination to be conducted by the Board at the end of Class XII. The Board's examination will be held on the courses and contents prescribed for class XII only. Those for class XI will be examined internally by the schools.
7. Work Experience and General Studies are applicable to students of Academic Stream only. The Vocational Group students are not required to offer these subjects.
8. On-the-Job Training, wherever recommended in,the Syllabus of the Vocational Course(s) concerned is obligatory/compulsory.

The syllabuses under the vocational stream are priced publications and can be had from the Board's Office in accordance with the usual procedure laid down for the purpose.
Schools desirous of starting new vocational course(s) as per the need of the area may write to the Education Officer (vocational), CBSE, 17-B, I.P Estate, New Delhi- 110002, specifically mentioning the course(s) intended to be introduced alongwith the draft syllabus and opportunities available for self- employment or wage employment.
