STUDENTS ENROLMENT AND PROFILE
Admission for NOS academic courses were made through over 300 Accred- ited Institutions spread all over the country. Admissions are open once in a year in the month of July. NOS is, however, planning to have two admission sessions in a year in future.
First admission to NOS vocational courses were made during September- October, 1992 through Accredited Vocational Institutions in 15 states and union territories.
During the year, the Examination Department was responsible for making admission of the students.
Conscious efforts were made to stem the declining trend in admissions in the past two consecutive years and to increase the enrolment during the year. Admission notifications were published in 37 national and regional Newspapers throughout the country towards the end of June, 1992. The candidates could seek admission to NOS courses through any nearby Accredited Institution (AI). The notifications contained the list of AIs in the region and all the relevant information.
Special efforts made to raise the enrolment paid dividends resulting in a steep rise in the enrolment figures from 34,781 in July, 1991 to 53,567 in July, 1992, a rise of over 56 percent.
Students from all the states and union territories excepting Dadar & Nagar Haveli and Lakshadweep got enrolled for the NOS courses. Statewise enrolment of students is given below (Table 4).
