HUMAN RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT
Inservice training of both academic and other staff was pursued as an important element of human resource development and a good number of faculty and other staff members participated in inservice training programme in the country and abroad.
Orientation programmes and workshops were also organised for coordi- nators of the accredited institutions to familiarise them with the concept of open learning and to enable them to discharge their functions effectively relating to the enrolment of students and providing student support services. Also, the faculty of NOS acted as resource persons in human resource development programmes organised by other academic bodies and institutions.
Human resource development activities during the year included:
(i) Smt. S. Mitra, Deputy Education Officer attended a three weeks attachment programme sponsored by Commonwealth of Learning at the Centre of off Campus Studies, University Sains, Penang, Malaysia from June 1-21,1992.
(ii) Dr. Rajesh Kumar, Deputy Education Officer attended a three weeks attachment programme sponsored by Commonwealth of Learning at SEAMEO Regional Language Centre at Singapore from August 24 to September 11, 1992.
(iii) Shri S.S. Sangal, Joint Director (Vocational) attended UNESCO Regional Workshop organised by Asian Cultural Centre ACCU, Tokyo, Japan at Dalian in China from October 6-17, 1992 on the preparation of literacy follow-up materials on agricultural vocational training for adults in rural areas.
(iv) Sh. S.K. Misra, Deputy Director (Exams) attended three months course in 'School Examinations Development under British Technical Co- operation Training Programme at Cambridge University Local Examinations Syndicate, Cambridge, U.K. from 1st February to 22nd April, 1993. He also visited the Open University, U.K., National Extension College, Cambridge, U.K. and Cito National Institute for Educational. Measurement, Arnham, The Netherlands.
(i) A special one week programme for the training of staff specially working in Accounts and Audit was conducted in collaboration with I S T M from 3.8.92 to 9.8.92. Twenty staff members including Accounts Officer, Section Officers and junior staff attended the training.
(ii) An in-house one-month computer training programme was organised by the Computer Centre for all academic staff. The objective of the programme was to acquaint the academic staff with operating system and word processor.
(iii) Shri S.S. Sangal, Joint Director (Vocational Education) attended NCERT workshop held at Indian Institute of Education, Pune in November, 1992 to formulate guidelines for developing instructional. material in Vocational Courses.
(i) Seven orientation programmes

were organised for the Coordinators of the selected schools accredited with the NOS. The objectives of the programmes were to clarify the concept of Open Learning with special reference to the role of AIs and expectations from them as also to share information on the norms for admission of students to various courses and payments admissible for the purpose.
(ii) Five short duration orientation programmes were organised during June-July, 1992 in the offices of the Deputy Directors of Education of various districts in Delhi. Coordinators numbering 63 attended the programmes.
(iii) Two workshop- cum- orientation programmes were organised in June, 1992 for the coordinators of new accredited institutions from the Kendriya and Navodya Vidyalayas. A total number of 55 coordinators attended.
Sh. S.S. Sangal, Joint Director (Voc. Edu.) acted as a resource person in the training programme organised by the Directorate of Adult Education, Government of India at Shramik Vidyapeeth, Lucknow from November 20-22, 1992.
Ms. Gopa Biswas, Tutor (English) acted as a resource person in a workshop on "A Status Study of the question paper of Public Examination of Class X-XII" organised by DMES, Doordarshan and NCERT from September, 28th to 1st October, 1992 She also acted as a resource person in "An In-service Teacher Training Programme" at DIET, Rajender Nagar, New Delhi on 20th March, 1992.
Ms. Anju V. Nirula, Tutor (Maths) attended the Annual Conference of the Association of Mathematics Teachers of India held at Sardar Patel Vidyalaya, Lodhi Estate, New Delhi from 24-26 December, 1992.
