STUDENTS ENROLMENT AND PROFILE
Total enrolment for the year was 62,283 as against 53,576 during the preceding year representing an increase of 16.3 per cent. Students from all the states and union territories excepting Lakshadweep and Dadra and Nagar Haveli got enrolled. State-wise and region-wise break-up of enrolment are given in Tables 5.1 and 5.2 :

The highest enrolment was from Delhi (39%) followed by Haryana (13.50%),
West Bengal (11.50%) and Uttar Pradesh (8%).

Region-wise, the highest enrolment was in northern region (67%) followed by eastern region (16%), north-eastern region (9%) and western region (6.50%). The enrolment in southern region was the lowest (2%).
A profile of the registrants in coursewise, mediumwise, genderwise categorywise, agewise alongwith the subjects offered is presented in Tables 5.3 to 5.8 and Figures 5.2 to 5.8.

Of the three courses, highest enrolment was 56.4 % for the secondary course, followed by senior secondary (41.4 %). The enrolment in bridge course was 2.3%. Enrolment for senior secondary course increased by about 2 per cent whereas in secondary course, it decreased by about 3 per cent over the last year.
* 78.6 % students of the Bridge course, 66.0 % of the secondary course and 66.5 % of the Senior Secondary Course offered Hindi as the medium of instructions. The rest offered English as the medium.
* Of total number of students, male and female percentages were 65.7 and 35.3 respectively.
* Of the students enrolled, 16.3 % belong to Scheduled Castes and 9.9 % to the Scheduled Tribes. This represented an increase of 7% and 4 % over the last year. Percentages of the handicapped students was 0.7% and of Ex-servicemen 0.4%.
* These categories together with the women students accounted 61.4% of the students who were given substantial amount of exemption ranging from 40-50 per cent in their fees.
* Highest enrolment was in the age group of 17-19. It represented 44.8% of the total enrolment against 42.7 % in the last year.
* At Secondary level, highest number of students (88.2%) opted for English. This was followed by Social Science (82.5%), Hindi (79.9%), Science (56.9%) and Economics (48%).
* At Senior Secondary level maximum number of students opted for English (89.1%) followed by Hindi (77.6%), Political Science (55.4%), History (50.2%) and Economics (45%).

A total of 2,670 students from 12 states and union territories were enrolled in NOS Vocational Courses during the two admissions carried out in the months of March-April, 1993 and October-November, 1993. The enrolment was 1127 in March-April, 1993 and 1,543 in October- November, 1993.
State-wise enrolment of students is presented in Table 5.9 and Figure 5.9:
The highest number of students enrolled for vocational courses was from Andhra Pradesh (24%), followed by Delhi (21.50%), Kerala (18.50%) and Tamilnadu (10.50%).
