Scheme for the Award of Fellowships to Outstanding Artists in the field of the performing the
Literary and the Plastic Arts

The scheme has been formulated with the objective that artists who have already
achieved an excellence in their respective fields can be given financial support to
enable them to continue experimentation in a Spirit of freedom generated by financial
security, to achieve greater perfection in their specilised fields. The fellowships are
given to outstanding persons in various creative fields either for very advanced training
or individual creative work for revival of some of traditional forms of art covering
artists in rural/tribal areas.
Eligibility These fellowships would be given for creative work for specified schemes and projects
either suggested by the artists or at the initiative of the Central Government. Age: 25
- 65 (relaxable upto 70 yrs in deserving cases) Not more than 50 % of the awards will
be made available to persons above the age of 50 years.
Procedure Suggestions for award of fellowship will be invited every year sometime during
for June-July from the Selection State (Government/Union Territory Administrations/ Central
Selection Academies in the prescribed nomination form. The State Government/Union Territory
Administration may also consult the State Academies of arts in the matter wherever
such academies exist. The State Academies may send their recommendations through
the State Government/Union Territory Administration concerned. Members of the
public would be free to suggest names for such fellowships but only to the Central
State Academies of to the State Government/Union Territory Administration concerned.
A Central Selection Committee comprising experts in different fields will be constituted
by the Department of Culture, Government of India, which would consider the
Suggestions received from the State Governments etc. and finally nominate the awardees
for fellowships for a particular year. Selected fellow is expected to submit a yearly
report on his/her work. Each Fellow is expected to have shown evidence either in a
creative field or fields of criticism or research or revival of some traditional form of
arts.
Value of Junior 1,500/- p.m.
Fellowship Senior 3,000/- p.m.
