                                  Research          Indian Council of Historical Research has taken a broad view of history so as to
                                  areas             include in its fold Indian and non-Indian history, political, social, economic, culture
                                                    and intellectual history, history of art and literature, philosophy, international relations,
                                                    science and technology, epigraphy, anthropology, linguistics, archaeology, socio-
                                                    economic formations and allied subjects,, With a view to encouraging research (in
                                                    India and outside the country) in certain significant but hitherto less explored aspects
                                                    of history, the Council has identified from time to time, certain areas in which work
                                                    may be undertaken by the scholars so as to contribute towards better understanding of
                                                    our history.
        
                                  Eligibility       These fellowships are extended to, historians in universities, colleges and other
                                                    institutions who have established their reputation for research, or who have the potential
                                                    for professional growth.  Fellowships am normally Offered to those who are already
                                                    based in an academic institute.  MPhil/PhD students are eligible for Junior Fellowships.
                                                    Whit students are eligible for grant of fellowships for a period of one year, they may
                                                    apply to the Council after completing six months of the registration.
        
                                  Amount of         a) Junior Fellowship - Maximum 3+ years to scholars pursuing     M.Phill/
                                  Fellowship                                Ph.D. degree. Rs.1200/- p.m. and contingent grant
                                                                            of Rs.4,000/- per annum.
        
                                                    b) Post-doctoral Fellowship - Maximum 3 years.  Rs. 1,800/- p.m. and
                                                                                   contingent grant of Rs. 4000 to 8000/- pm
        
                                                    c) pay-protection Fellowship - One year, salary, protected.  Contingent grant of Rs.
                                                                                    4,000/- to Rs. 10,000/- p.a.
        
                                                    d) Senior Fellowship - Available for University Lecturers, Readers, Professors and
                                                                             persons not in service. Maximum 3 years.Rs.2,000/-to
                                                                             Rs.3,000/- and contingent grants from Rs.6,000/- to Rs.
                                                                              10,000/- p.a.
        
                                                    e)  National Fellowships- Awarded to eminent historians Rs. 4,000p.m., contingent
                                                                              grant of Rs.10,000 p.a. and secretarial assistance Rs.l000
                                                                              p.m. - Maximum three, years duration.
        
                                   Application    Application form is printed with the notification. Eligible persons should apply through
                                   procedure      proper channel in the prescribed form, submitting five copies of detailed note/synopsis
                                                  on research proposal and bio-data.  Completed applications should reach the Indian
                                                  Council of Historical Research by the prescribed date.
