The objective Indian Council of Philosophical Research Fellowship scheme is to
promote. research in philosophy at various levels in India by providing opportunities
to scholars of all ages to engage, on a full time basis, in important research projects
proposed by them or in the Council's projects. The Council awards National
Fellowships, Senior Fellowships, General Fellowships, Short-term and Residential
Fellowships and Fellowships for preparing Learning Material.
Eligibility National Fellowships are awarded to eminent scholars who have made an outstanding
contribution to research in philosophy or in interdisciplinary studies. Applications are
not invited; National Fellows are chosen by the Council from amongst the names
suggested by the Members of the Research Project Committee.
Senior Fellowships are awarded to well-known senior professional scholar in philosophy
who have made a significant contribution to the study of philosophy and related subjects
having publications of a very high order. General Fellowships are awarded to scholars
who have shown significant promise and competence for independent research in their
books and research articles and a Ph.D. degree is not essential. Short-term Fellowships
are awarded for a duration of 3 months to enable scholars to engage in full-time
research to complete their work. Residential, Fellowships are meant to help scholars
who wish to consult ICPR's Academic Centre in Lucknow for their ongoing research
projects. Fellowships for Preparing Learning Material are awarded to scholars who
are renowned in their area of research and related disciplines to enable them to prepare
learning material(textbooks, supplementary reading material, pictorial presentation,
slides, exhibition material etc.) for university and college students. Junior Research
Fellowships are also awarded to those candidates who are not pursuing M. Phil course.
Amount a) Senior, Fellowship - Rs. 3700 to 7300 per month and contingent grant of
Fellowship Rs. 10,000/- per annum.
b) General Fellowship - Rs.2,500 to 5000 per month and contingent grant of
Rs.5,000 per annum.
c) Junior Research - Rs. 1,500/- per month or Fellowship Rs. 1,800/-(candidates
who Qualified in NET of UGC) and contingency grant of
Rs.5,000/- per annum.

d) Short term Rs. 1500/- per month and Fellowships contingency grant of
(3 months)Rs. 2,000/-.
e) Residential Rs.75/- per day as daily Fellowship allowance with
accommo-(maximum 60dation and Rs. 100/- per days in a
year)day without accommodation.
f) Fellowship for Rs. 2,500/- to 7,300/- and preparing contingent grant of Rs
learning material 10,000/-.
Final selection with the Selection Committee constituted by the Council. Provision
for protection of pay and allowances for employed candidates.
Application Applications for the award of fellowships other than National Fellowship may be
Procedure submitted in the prescribed form at any time of the year; these are scrutinised by the
Council once a year between January and March. In case of employed scholars, the
applications should be sent through their employers. Application should be received
with the required documents and synopsis of the project (5 copies).
